“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” Isa 9:6 (NASB)
The end of this verse is so incredibly rich. It’s a feast that’s almost too much to bear, or comprehend, that Christ is all of that. He is everything we need in this dark, dark world, and yet He remains rejected by so many… And darkness still looms all around…
But He is the Light of the World, and in Him there is no darkness. (See 1 John 1:5)
Despite the evil around us, He is still Sovereign and remains the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace.
As so many of us do, I have the Sandy Hook families in Connecticut on my mind today. Their pain is unfathomable! I am keeping them in my prayers and asking God to shower them with His strength and wrap them in His love and light as they face the ugly monster of torment and grief.
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
(Isaiah 41:10 ESV)
