3 Reasons Why Your Spiritual Tires Should be Balanced

I recently took the car to the tire shop. We’d just gotten the tires rotated a week before and somehow, during the process, one of the weights had fallen off inside the tire and knocked them off balance.

It took me a few days to notice. We live in a small-ish town and I don’t need to get on the highway often to get where I need to go.

But when my husband drove it, he noticed a shimmy at highway speeds. Sure enough, when I needed to get on the highway later that day, I clearly felt the same shudder once I reached 60mph.

Back to the tire shop for a quick rebalance…

And all of that got me thinking about the “Highway Speeds of Life” and why our spiritual tires need to be well balanced.

See, if our faith is small and weak, it’s crippling. We move along with a shudder or shimmy. An immature faith can really hold us back when life gets hard. When we’re prepared through faith and relationship with God, we’re able to better handle the things that God allows in life.

Can you handle the "highway speeds of life?" 3 Reasons Why Your Spiritual Tires Should Be Balanced at HearfeltReflections.wordpress.com

Our spiritual “tires” should be balanced because:

1. We can travel safely.

Driving to the tire shop with my lil one in the backseat made me uncomfortable with the car shuddering. I “took it slow” because I knew a quicker pace was unsafe. With a strong foundation in God, though, we know that we can smoothly ride the highways of life. Once we come to a saving knowledge of Christ, our spiritual safety is guaranteed… eternally. And, we can trust in His ability to guide us through tough seasons and keep us safe no matter what comes our way. {Even in extreme cases such as persecution or martyrdom, God keeps us spiritually safeguarded and a strong faith is crucial.}

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand”. (John 10:28, ESV)

2. We can stay on course.

If our relationship is mature, we know God’s leading when He gives it. We can more clearly recognize Our Shepherd and the signs and directions He gives. With spiritually “unbalanced tires”, we might not be able to handle the terrain where He leads.

“…yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.” (Isa 30:20b-21, ESV)

3. We can experience the joy of the ride.

It’s so much more enjoyable to have a smooth ride, isn’t it? (And so unpleasant not to!) Our family loves being in the car together. Since our kids are older and not always home with us, we treasure the car time we get with them. A smooth drive only adds to our experience. Riding with God brings great joy, and knowing Him better is filling and rewarding!

“…for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” (Neh 8:1 ESV)

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied” (Matt 5:6, ESV)

So, have you done a spiritual “tire balance” lately? What helps your tires stay balanced and what other benefits do you see?

Praying for a safe, staying-on-course, enjoyable kind of ride for you!

Blessings,
Ali
